Homeopathy is a scientific, gentle and safe healing system. It helps the body to heal itself and enables us to maintain our optimum health levels emotionally and physically.
Homeopathy comes from the Greek words meaning 'similar suffering' or simply like cures like. It was established over 200 years ago by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, who realised that he could cure a patient of a certain illness by administering a minute dose of a substance which causes the symptoms of that illness in a healthy person. Though unconventional, this was by no means a new idea it was first stated by Hippocrates, the 'father of medicine' two thousand years earlier who recognised that there are two ways of treating illness, the way of opposites and the way of similars.
Homeopathic remedies as prescribed by a qualified homeopath should not cause side effects and are suitable for all ages and in all stages of life.
The remedies work by stimulating the body's healing ability. Homeopathic remedies are not tested on animals but on healthy humans.
Homeopathy recognises that the symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs to be treated and not the disease. With conventional medicine we treat the disease, we take some pills for headache and another for indigestion; with homeopathy a person will be given one remedy at a time to address all of his/her health complaints.
